About the Julia Taft Refugee Fund:

The Julia Taft Refugee Fund is an initiative by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM). Established in 2000, it supports one-time, low-cost interventions of up to $25,000 to address crucial gaps in protection and assistance for refugees, stateless persons, and those at risk of statelessness. The fund aims to fill humanitarian gaps not covered by UNHCR, international organizations, and NGOs.

Supported Project Types:

The Julia Taft Fund primarily supports projects with a participant base of refugees or returnees and host communities, with a minimum of 50% refugees/returnees as direct beneficiaries. It also considers projects promoting equal access for vulnerable groups such as LGBTQI+ individuals, persons with disabilities, older persons, women, and girls. However, projects targeting IDPs, stateless persons, or vulnerable migrants are not eligible.

Past Funded Projects:

Since 2015, the U.S. Embassy has sponsored nine projects in five crisis-affected regions, totaling USD 222,200. Projects include the construction of infrastructure, provision of psychosocial support, and support for vocational training.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Limited to Cameroonian registered CBOs, associations, or NGOs with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Cameroon.
• Previous year’s Julia Taft Fund recipients are not eligible for the current year.

Application Process:

NGOs can submit grant proposals for their projects by March 10, 2024, using the standard U.S. Embassy format (Attached – 2024-JTF-guidelines-Eng (1)). Proposals should be emailed to grantsyaounde@state.gov.

Proposal Guidelines:

• Project budgets cannot exceed $25,000.
• Proposals can address sectors like WASH, education, health, vocational training, income-generating activities, or other relevant social issues (2024-JTF-Application-Eng).
• Applicants must have a UEI number and be registered in SAM.gov.
• Applicants must adhere to a Code of Conduct consistent with the UN’s IASC recommendations on preventing sexual abuse and exploitation.
